| Bio... | |
| Jon Nicholas joined the
Barbershop Harmony
Society in 1977 at the age of 16. Singing with the Louisville Thoroughbreds, he acquired two international gold medals (1978 & 1981) along with a few silvers and bronzes. Jon is a two-time Cardinal District quartet champion, singing baritone with The Class Of '84 and The Sensations. Jon has sung in two international-level quartets: The Sensations (2001 - Nashville, 20th place) & The New Sensations (2003 - Montreal, 25th place). Jon became the front line musical director of The Kentuckians (Lexington chapter) in January, 2002. The Kentuckians won their AA plateau championship in 2003, and won the AAA plateau championship in 2004, 2007, and 2008. While remaining the front line director of the Lexington chorus, Jon helped the Elizabethtown, Ky. chapter form in 2006. The Kentucky Vocal Union is directed by noted arranger and good friend, Aaron Dale. Jon began arranging in 2002 out of a necessity to provide fresh music to his new chorus. Since then, his arrangements have been sung by groups in the US, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia. Jon's original chorus, The Thoroughbreds, took one of his arrangements to Internationals in 2005, and the current British Women's Harmony, Inc. quartet champions, Havoc, are singing his arrangement of Baby's Request. Up until recently, Jon was a BHS sanctioned learning track producer, but has stopped due to the lack of time as arrangement commissions have increased. He now only produces tracks for his own works. Jon is a four-part-qualified member of AHSOW. Jon is a fourth generation barbershopper. His great-grandfather sang in a quartet in the early 1900s, his son was a charter member of the St. Louis chapter, and his son (Jon's father) currently sings bass in a quartet in Newton, Iowa. Jon, 48, is married to his amazingly supportive wife, Denise. They live in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. |
